As we get into the winter months, many of my coaching clients — and students in our one year program — complain about low energy. This is not so much an issue in the spring or summer, but when it is colder and the days are shorter, people are more subject to feelings of depression, lethargy, and sluggishness.
This week I am going to ask you to help me to complete this blog: we can do it together. My aim is to create a list of the twelve most potent and viable ways to increase your energy level, not just as a quick boost with a cup of coffee or a Red Bull, but how to create sustained high energy states over time.
Here is how this game will work: I am going to write my top nine candidates for increasing energy levels below, but I am going to leave numbers 10, 11, and 12 blank. You can add to the list in the comment section at the bottom. You can like or refine the suggestions that other people make. Whichever suggestions get the most support will be added to the list and the person who suggested it will get one-month free membership in our Global Brilliance Practice Community.
Sound good? Let’s go!
1 Chi Kung

I gave this number one place because the Chinese word “Chi” means energy and “Kung” means practice or cultivation. The word literally means to cultivate energy. The principles behind any Chi-Kung practice are to increase energy levels, circulate this through the body, then to store energy in the Dan Tien just below the navel. Practicing Chi-Kung for anywhere between 30 minutes and a couple of hours every day will definitely, without doubt, absolutely guaranteed, increase your energy levels, as well as increasing health and longevity.
2 Burn Moxa on CV4

There is a story of one of China’s most infamous train robbers. He was famous for jumping off a bridge onto the roof of a train, climbing down into the carriage, robbing everyone on board, and then jumping off the train, never to be seen again. It took years for the authorities to catch him, but finally, they did. When he was apprehended, it was discovered that he was 93-years-old. He had the agility of a very young man and had been able to escape arrest all those years. They asked him, what is the secret to being so young of spirit when you are 93? His answer was, “I feed fire to my belly.”
This is the ancient practice of burning moxa on points on the body to increase energy. CV4 is a direct window to the kidneys, which are something like the batteries for the body, in Chinese medicine, for energy storage. You can buy moxa sticks online. Ignite a stick with a lighter and then hold it an inch or so from the point for 10 minutes a day. If it gets a little painful or feels too hot, back it off a bit. Do not burn yourself! It is tried and tested for thousands of years to be effective to increase energy levels.
3 Return to Youth

The Dragon Herbs formula Return to Youth is their most effective blend of herbs that have hundreds of years of experimentation to restore kidney jing and give you new feelings of calm, deep, slow-burning energy. The formula has been used traditionally to strengthen the sense organs, improve memory and concentration, enhance sexual energy and arousal, and to support healthy aging. It is suitable for men and women of all ages. I use it and highly recommend it. Four capsules in the morning are very helpful.
4 Schizandra

Also from Dragon Herbs, Schizandra is an herb helpful for slowly restoring and rebuilding deep levels of energy so your body has more calm ability to sustain stamina over a longer period. Schizandra is an ingredient in Return to Youth described above, but it is helpful to take separately at the end of the day. Ron Teeguarden, the founder of Dragon Herbs, recommends four capsules in the evening each day.
5 Go to the Gym

Regular resistance training to increase muscular strength gives you more capacity to store energy in the muscles, which not only makes you physically stronger but increases the psychological feeling of “I can do this.” For men, the muscles are where we store testosterone, which is the hormone that gives you confidence in your ability to push through and get things done. Many women say that they use the gym more for flexibility and toning so that energy can flow freely throughout their whole body. Each person has to find their right balance. No matter if your visits are devoted to strength training, toning, flexibility or aerobic activity, devoting one hour, three times a week, is a tried and tested proven intervention to increase energy.
6 NADH

My friend John Gray turned me on to this very powerful supplement and it has changed things for me in a big way. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is made in your body already from niacin, which is a B vitamin, but as a coenzyme, NADH helps your body break down food and convert it into energy. It also stimulates brain function, but most importantly, NADH restores the function of the mitochondria, which causes your body to transmit energy between cells more effectively.
Here is an important caveat: not all NADH products deliver similar benefits. John turned me on to a form of NADH imported from Germany, developed by Professor George Birkmayer. It is a little more expensive, but you can feel the difference immediately.
7 Wim Hof Breath Method

I met this extraordinary 59-year-old Dutchman a few weeks ago in Los Angelas at a conference. He is often known as the “Iceman” because he is able to keep his body in freezing conditions for considerable periods of time. Here is the amazing thing: he attributes his ability to sustain body temperature in this way through the use of one simple breathing method. It is no big heavily guarded secret. In the video below, he explains exactly how to do it. I do this technique several times a week, and it increases energy levels throughout the day.
8 Hydrate

One of the reasons for energy dropping during the winter is that we are indoors more, which means we exercise and sweat less, so we forget to drink enough water. Even though it is cold, your body still needs adequate hydration to be energized. To make sure that the hydration fully gets to the cells, try adding a small pinch of sea salt and a small pinch of xylitol to your water.
9 Get Sexually Aroused

As you probably know, many ancient traditions recognize that all of our energy begins in the pelvis. In a way, all energy begins as sexual energy and transmutes into other parts of the body. A great way to sustain high energy levels is to become frequently sexually aroused, hopefully every day, just enough to get “warmed up” and use breathing methods to move that energy into other parts of the body.
For a man, it is really important to distinguish here between arousal and ejaculation. If you ejaculate every day, particularly during the winter, it will significantly lower your long-term energy levels. However, if you experience arousal and then use your breath to move that energy, it will spread that warmth throughout your body and increase energy levels. This is equally possible if you are single through self-stimulation or if you are in a relationship with your partner.
Many women report that they find it helpful to give themselves 5-10 minutes of breast massage every day. Breasts have more nerve endings than anywhere else in the body and it can be the fastest path to warming up the sexual energy.
You can learn more about using sexual energy in this way in Mantak Chia’s books: The Multi-Orgasmic Man: Sexual Secrets Every Man Should Know, and The Multi-Orgasmic Couple: Sexual Secrets Every Couple Should Know.
Now it is your turn. I put three more slots below and we will fill those in as we get suggestions from you. Thank you for participating.
